Warring City-States (somearry) < see what i did there!

Today Mr. Schick wasn't feeling so well so today during class, we took notes of of the textbook. We continued off of the slide which said "Warring City- States." This had a whole chapter about it. i learned a lot about city states. City state in Greek is "polis." Sparta and Athens were polis' in Greece and they were separated from the Peloponnesus. Athens focused on the naval side in the military and Sparta focused on land and were part of the infantry (fighting on land). Athenian education mainly studied what we focus on today. Some examples may be poetry, education, and gym- like practicing for the army. In Sparta, boys left at age 7 to dedicate their lives to the army. They would stop at age 30 but be officially done with it at age 60. That is if you didn't die as a martyr. The women in both polis' stayed home and did housework. The women got lucky if they knew how to read and write, so they taught their daughter, and showed them how to work around the house. Women didn't have that much say back then. Men in Athens would meet up in the agora, to sell and talk about things on their mind.
I am very tired and this day off definitely effected me and I just wrote about some of the main points in class. There was definitely important topics in my notes today, but hopefully on Monday I will be back on track and transcribe all of my notes in next week's blog.
